Sports Chiropractor in Fulham

Runner stretching triceps outsideAthletes at all skill levels subject their bodies to additional stressors beyond those of daily living—and all of that stress can take a toll on the body’s ability to adapt and continue functioning optimally.

At Peak Function Chiropractic, we address athletes’ needs from a whole-body point of view. Rather than focusing only on areas of dysfunction or overuse, we take a holistic approach based on the fact that everything in the body is connected.

Our Scientific Approach

Our chiropractor, Robert van Schalkwyk, has over two decades of experience working with recreational and world-class athletes, including many professional sports teams, in a wide range of sports ranging from dance to rugby. Based on your specific needs and goals, he will create a care program that includes adjustments and/or mobilisations to address the joints, soft tissue work (including stretching and corrective exercises) to strengthen and stabilise the musculature, and functional movement training to retrain your body to create healthier patterns of movement.

Throughout your care, Robert will offer a great deal of education about the biomechanics of your body and the importance of core strength to maintain optimal mobility and function. Whether your goal is to rehab from an injury, improve your performance or help prevent future injuries, our approach seeks to address the musculoskeletal system and nerve system to help every part of your body work together as it should.

In addition to his chiropractic education and experience, Robert has been a personal trainer and managed large gyms for decades. An athlete himself, Robert understands the unique needs of athletes and tailors your care accordingly.

Common Injuries We See

Of course, we don’t want you to wait until you’re injured to seek our care—we’d rather help improve your functional movement patterns to help you prevent an injury. But playing sports often means minor injuries occur, and our care may be helpful in addressing such things as:

  • Ankle pain or dysfunction
  • Elbow pain or dysfunction
  • Knee pain or dysfunction
  • Ligament injuries
  • Shoulder pain or dysfunction
  • Sprain/strain injuries
  • Wrist pain or dysfunction
